What does a wedding coordinator do?
You've planned this event for your family and friends. Shouldn't you ensure you have the time and energy to enjoy them? From full coordination to taking over the reigns on the day of the event, we are here to help keep you calm, organized and sane.
You've created all the spreadsheets, signed every contract and tasted every cake flavor. You have all the details planned but you want (and deserve) to hand over the reigns to a professional team on the big day.
Our industry calls this "day-of" coordination, but really our work starts up to 60 days before your event.
At that time, we'll setup a site visit of your ceremony + reception space, we'll create a floor plan and a timeline for you, direct the rehearsal the day before and execute your plan and vision for 8 hours on the wedding day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire a wedding planner?
For many couples, it is their very first time planning a wedding. They are confused as to where to begin, how much everything costs, and which vendors are best for them. Planning a wedding is not only about choosing your colors, flowers, and menu. There are logistical matters such as the timing of events, parking situations, and knowing which vendors are reputable. We are here to guide you and to take care of all of these concerns.
This isn't a job for your mom, your bridesmaids, or your weird cousin who wants to be involved even though you don't like her very much. This is a huge party and it is worth the money to hire someone to help you navigate the planning, keep you calm, sane and under-budget AND let you enjoy the day!
What types of weddings do you accommodate?
Casual, Upscale, Civil, Destination, Vow Renewals, Eco-Friendly / Green, LGBT, Military, you name it, we can do it!
Who are your favorite vendors to work with?
Here is a link to our preferred vendor list.
Am I required to use your recommended vendors?
No way! Our recommendations are solely recommendations. We can usually offer better prices from our preferred vendors than we can with someone we haven’t worked with before but we love making new friends in the business and are happy to work with any vendor that meets your needs and your budget.
Do you charge for an initial consultation?
Our initial consultations are always complimentary. This is a chance for us to get to know each other to see if we’re a good fit to work together.
Do you charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or a percentage of my overall wedding budget? What is the retainer to secure your services?
After the our initial meeting, we'll draft up a price and contract based on location, venue, and guest count.
In most cases, a retainer of half the coordination fee is required to "save the date." Additional fees can accrue during the planning period (personal shopping, DIY decor sourcing and creation fees, mileage for traveling to site visits, etc) but all additional charges are approved by the Client ahead of time.
We can accommodate payment plans as well. We offer discounts for military, teachers and anyone who purchased a gown at Urban Set Bride!
Our goal is to make any budget work so let's chat about what you can handle and we'll go from there!
What makes you different from other wedding planners in the area?
It's important to decide what kind of planner you want and need. Richmond has a lot of spectacular wedding planning teams that offer full planning, design, and styling. You pay one fee and your event is a Pinterest-approved fete in no time.
We strive to be more like a friend to help you and keep you sane. We'll put you in touch with helpful, professional, and talented vendors, pass along "industry discounts" directly to you, help you stay in sync with your budget and planning timeline, meet with vendors and venue reps, review contracts and help you negotiate, help you with styling, color choices, and DIY ideas, and be a sounding board for all of your wedding-related questions and concerns.
We want you to plan your own wedding. It's a great test for your relationship with your partner, and it SHOULD be fun (most of the time.)
But hiring a professional that stays calm under pressure, stays practical throughout and knows you well enough to handle everything seamlessly on the day of proves to always be worth it to our clients.
We can help you balance trendy touches with your own personal styles to create a wedding that is all yours!
What additional types of events do you service?
Anniversaries, Baby Showers, Bar / Bat Mitzvahs, Birthdays, Bridal Showers, Corporate Events, Engagement Parties, Graduations, Holiday Parties, and more! Please email us for event pricing.
How much communication will we have?
We have a policy to respond to all emails and phone messages in a timely manner. We will respond to all messages within 24 business hours.
How many weddings or events will you coordinate per day?
Each planner guarantees to only book one wedding per weekend and most events qualify for a free assistant for the wedding day.
Who will be there from your team on my actual wedding day?
Your event coordinator and (usually) an assistant will start setting up the moment we can get into the venue and work 8 hours, which usually brings us to cake cutting time.
As long as everything is going smoothly, we pack up your gifts in a safe location and head home.
Our "clean up plan" will always be discussed before the big day to ensure all the bases are covered with your obligations to the venue.

Christine met her very first bride in 2011 when she leased her an apartment in Richmond. The bride needed an apartment quickly because her fiance was in a medically-induced coma awaiting a heart transplant. So, she uprooted her life in Chicago to move to Richmond and be near her loved one. Christine bonded with her immediately as she had just lost her fiancee the month before to brain cancer.
A bond was created and planning a wedding was a good distraction for both of them. A year later, the groom had a new heart and had made a full recovery, ready to greet his new wife as she walked down the aisle at Pippin Hill in Charlottesville. And a career for Christine was born.
36 weddings later in 2014, Christine opened a bridal boutique with her mother called Urban Set Bride and still continues to plan weddings along with her team.
She enjoys reading, VCU basketball games, anything Beyonce does, shopping, travel, thrifting, politics and spending time with her family and friends.
She lives in Church Hill with her brand-new husband, Lenny, and her two dogs, Frank and Banana.
Christine hired Brittney, Ciera and Dana in 2014 and they've all worked up from interns to assistants to coordinators.
All three have worked along side Christine for the last year and now handle assisting weddings and leading events on their own.
When Christine realized she needed to create a team, she received 125 resumes and interviewed 30 people. And these are the three she chose to join her team and become her family.
She has an extensive background in sales and event management. As a Fashion Merchandising major at VCU she, and colleagues, produced her first fashion show at the VMFA. During her junior year, she joined the team of RVA Fashion Week as a volunteer stylist, and has since participated as a Board Member, holding roles such as Trunk Show Director and Model Manager.
Ciera has a diverse background of event management experience including hosting various sales driven in-store events & promotions during her time in retail management and organizing marketing events such as FEED MORE food drive fundraisers and cook-offs for the Richmond interior design community. Ciera has planned and executed the logistics for public relations events such as press releases for up and coming designers and grand openings for local restaurants.
Ciera prides herself on having strong organization skills and thinking creatively. She always pays attention to the small details that create a wow factor and executing a theme is where she naturally excels.

Karen + Parker // September 2015
"Right now many of my girlfriends are planning their own weddings and I feel like I'm literally SINGING the praises of Wood Grain & Lace and hiring a wedding planner. It's a smart investment and, if you've got an unusual vision like my husband and I did (destination wedding, party platters from our favorite restaurants for food instead of a caterer), then these are the people to help you pull it all together. I say "help" because that's exactly the relationship I wanted to have with Wood Grain & Lace.
Christine and I communicated often via email, phone, and text, and I was thrilled to work with her because she knew the right questions to ask when I had ideas I wanted to implement. I wanted a wedding planner that didn't do all the work with me, but instead could act as a sounding board and an expert in the industry, which is exactly what I found. Christine appreciated the vision we had for the ceremony and reception and I found her knowledge to be indispensable. Not only that, but her sense of humor and candor were both refreshing and pragmatic that kept the stress of the entire process away. The level of patience, professionalism, and flexibility I found in Christine leading up to the wedding and the day of could best be seen in the floral, rain, and food situation. She really come through when I dropped the ball on setting up the bouquets and ultimately got us a fantastic deal through an amazing florist at the last minute.
On the day of the wedding it rained and she was able to implement "Option B" and clearly articulated to all involved parties the new plan, which was absolutely perfect. And when we ran out of food (turns out our guests were more adventurous eaters than we thought!) she quickly ordered more from our favorite pizza place. Her communication and vision made for a stress free evening for all! Looking back I can't imagine doing any of this without Wood Grain & Lace.
If you put your trust in her like we did, you will not be disappointed."

"Hiring Christine and Wood Grain and Lace Events was by far the best decision we made when planning our wedding. She, along with her staff, made the entire process smooth and as stress free as possible. The vendors she recommended were consummate professionals and reasonably priced. From the first meeting in her office to the morning after when she delivered the wedding certificate and left behind belongings, she was professional, organized, responsive, and above all fun to work with. We will be forever thankful that we put our trust in Christine. Our wedding weekend exceeded our expectations and made it a memory that we will cherish. We are appreciative and thankful for her time, energy, and talents. Any couple would be well served to hire Christine and her crew for their wedding."

"Christine is hands down one of the most organized, easy-going, lovely people to work with. She provided day-of coordination for my backyard wedding this past Saturday and it was definitely the best day I could have ever imagined! Even working with me, super type-A, Christine was calm and relaxed and handled the few hiccups (including unexpectedly cold weather and moving an entire wedding indoors!) of the evening with charisma and ease. Throughout the entire planning process I was confident that everything was handled. Her recommendations for a videographer, floral crown, furniture rentals, etc. were all on-point and provided easy to work with individuals as well! I had a few vendors she had not worked with previously and yet, the timeline and tasks were delegated without a blink of an eye. Even with our huge, 17-people wedding party, everything felt like smooth sailing. I don’t even have enough words to rave about Christine and her team. They are the go-to gals for wedding planning and I would highly recommend them to any and every one!"

"Our wedding was so effortless and beautiful. We could not have done this without Ciera. We hired Wood Grain and Lace for day of coordination services. Ciera and Christine helped us find vendors that fit our personality and our style. All of our vendors were incredible and are rock stars. We would highly recommend wood grain and lace to anyone who is getting married. That was the best wedding investment that we made. Multiple people commented to us two weeks prior and even the week of the wedding that my spouse and I looked so calm and were impressed we weren't freaking out with last minute details. That was all possible because of Ciera and Wood Grain and Lace. There were a few wedding snags the week of and Ciera handled them like a boss helped us secure alternate options and multiple solutions."

"My wife and I absolutely loved working with Brittney of Wood Grain & Lace. The entire month before our ceremony was made so much easier by all of her hard work and attention to detail. She developed a comprehensive timeline/schedule of events, coordinated with all of our vendors, and did SO many little things to ensure that we would have the wedding of our dreams. Brittney and her assistant, Keneil, were incredible at both our rehearsal and our wedding day. They truly went above and beyond all of our expectations - I cant even recall all of the tiny little things that they remembered to do based on our numerous requests leading up to the big day. This was without a doubt the best investment we made during the entire process, and best of all, the cost was extremely reasonable. If you're on the fence about hiring a "month of" coordinator, I can assure you that contacting the staff at WGL will be the best decision you've ever made."

"I hired Wood Grain and Lace to be my 'day-of' coordinator for our September wedding this fall. It was a black tie, formal event that required top professionals, careful and robust planning, and attentive execution from start to finish. I can't express the confidence I had in Christine and her staff and the resulting peace and calm I felt on our wedding day. Her professionalism was effusive. And that began weeks before. Then on our big day, whenever I looked up, Christine and Keneil were there, taking care of everything without my even asking. Christine was great during the planning phase in reminding me of tasks I needed to do based on the plans I had shared with her. She sent reminders in a timely fashion that reduced my stress level in the last months leading up to our wedding. For any wedding, even with the best planning, things can get crazy the last couple of months. Although I hired Christine for day-of, her help leading up to our day was critical. It made the day go smoothly and our plans were executed with perfection. I can honestly say that our wedding was everything we wanted it to be. Largely because of Christine and Keneil, my new husband and I were able to be present the entire weekend and enjoy every single minute. After our reception, my husband and I sat in our suite drinking champagne and talking for the longest about how wonderful it all was. We will remember it well for the rest of our lives."

"Working with the ladies of WGL (Christine, Brittney and Dana) was hands down the best decision my husband and I made for our wedding day. Going into planning, I knew I was the type of person who had difficulty delegating tasks due to my desire to control and prepare for everything possible. As such, I knew I would be high-stress on the day of my wedding, and I didn't want to put myself or my husband/friends/family through that. As the day got closer and eventually came, I realized more and more that not only did the WGL girls make my life easier, but I honestly don't know how the day would have even been possible without them. It becomes abundantly clear in those last couple months of planning that the amount of detail involved for this one day is far too much for the bride & groom to have to manage alone. Who else is going to make sure your wedding gets set up and broken down and that all of your decor and treasured items get safely packed up? Who is going to hold your vendors accountable for being prepared, showing up, and getting the job done right? When lightning hits and a generator and DJ's computer gets fried and Animal Control shows up because a rabid raccoon is on the loose, are YOU, the bride, going to handle this stuff? No! Not even the biggest control-freak can control everything. The WGL girls are there for every timeline item and snafu and will still get down when your DJ plays a Beyonce song while maintaining the utmost professionalism and readiness. I loved working with these girls because they are direct and to-the-point when needed (with you AND your vendors), give the greatest advice about what's REALLY practical and what is just unnecessary strain on your budget/time/energy, and still are just extremely fun to be around.
You just HAVE to hire one of these fabulous planners for your wedding - they pay for themselves in the quality vendor discounts/connections they offer (we had amazing florals, videography, etc. that fit our tight budget), day-of coordination is A MUST at the least. Christine, Brittney, and Dana... thank you so much for making our big day so special and seamless!"

"Christine was SO great to work with throughout our entire wedding process. We used her as our day of coordinator, but she was so helpful with questions that popped up here and there and would quickly get back to me with answers to even the smallest detail. The day of she had everything 100% under control with such ease and such a great sense of humor. As a person who is maybe a little OCD and definitely a type A personality it can be hard to hand over the reigns on such an important day, but I had no problem sitting back and enjoying every second of our wedding day because she had everything handled without me having to lift a finger. I HIGHLY recommend her for any type of event planning."

Lindsey + Mary // May 2015
"I planned my wedding for 1.5 years and had every detail in order, complete with layouts, lists, timelines, etc. and it was 2 months prior when I accepted that I just couldn't also be the one to facilitate it all on the big day. When I met Ciera, I immediately felt she was listening, was accepting of me planning a gay wedding, understood my vision, was likable, had a directive personality, and would be able to pull it off without becoming overwhelmed.
Once she was hired, I continued all of my overly-detailed (okay, let's face it, anal) wedding preparations. On my wedding day, Ciera was immediately responsive to me via text and phone. She arrived on the scene and began implementing all of the plans I had given her. She handled various "issues" and did not burden me with them, but instead made decisions that I would have made myself because she knew my vision so well that she understood what I would have wanted. She was prepared, stuck to directions, and had others do so as well. She followed every single detailed instruction I had regarding décor and layout and when I arrived at the ceremony and the reception, there was not one bead, flower, linen, candle, or chalkboard out of place. During the ceremony, guests wanted to make toasts whom we had not approved. Ciera had no problem ensuring that unwanted toasts did not happen. Ciera was able to be directive with guests and vendors without being rude. Ciera went out of her way to complete tasks that she did not need to do such as boxing up food for us for the night (the caterer's job). Throughout the night, I was always able to find her.
After the wedding, we offered to help with cleanup and she would not let us and did it herself. Ciera was where she needed to be, put out fires, ensured my vision was a success, made others stick to the plan, distributed payments for me, assisted above and beyond her job duties, and, most importantly, did it all while maintaining an amazingly calm, playful attitude."

"My amazing experience with Christine & Wood Grain & Lace Events unfolded over many months and this review is abbreviated to highlight her most impactful interactions with our wedding planning and day-of coordination. There isn't enough space in this field or hours in the day to write out all she has done for me and my husband. -without Christine's patient & genuine care and guidance, my wedding wouldn't have been better than the best day I'd dreamt of, which it was! Countless guests exclaimed that our wedding was one of the most romantic and beautiful weddings they'd ever attended.
90% of the vendors we used were directly from Christine's vetted list of local businesses. Every last one of her referrals has earned our highest compliments. She is a trusted resource our local wedding industry - her response time was lightening fast; always available with a helpful suggestion that I hadn't thought of that turned my "nightmare" problems into fantastic solutions -happily intervened (when asked) to deal with issues from our outside vendors, saving me time and countless hours of aggravation -performed hours of sweaty, thankless service the day of our wedding, allowing me to enjoy the day while she and her awesome crew set-up, ran interference and dealt with last-minute snafu's - provided me access to her substantial inventory of staging and catering items at no charge!
I highly recommend Christine and her top-notch team for your wedding...they made my wildest dreams come true! Thank you Christine and Wood Grain and Lace Events!"

"What would I do without Christine? She provided a stress-free wedding day for me, my husband, and our families. When we arrived to the reception venue, everything looked perfect and Christine kept everything running smoothly until the last guest left. Yes there were hiccups behind the scenes like there are at EVERY wedding but Christine handled them with grace and a level-head. Thank you for helping us achieve such a beautiful wedding day, Christine! "

"If you are not sure of the necessity of a wedding planner, let me assure you, one is a must, and this is who you should choose. I had no idea how hectic the days and months leading up to the wedding could be. Christine made sure I didn't. She took care of everything A-Z and with ease and proficiency. Quite honestly, we would not have had the stellar wedding and reception we did without her. You can not put a value on peace of mind. Yet this is what Wood grain and Lace provides. Peace of mind packaged in one of the most professional, calm, sincere and sweet people in the world. Attention to detail, listening to EVERYTHING that you tell her and acting upon it, and ease. That is Wood Grain and Lace. I will recommend her to everyone I know. If you are not sure about needing a planner, you do. This one. "

Urban Set was the first and only place I looked for my wedding dress. I really had no idea what I wanted, so after trying on several dresses in my first appointment, Christine and Jennifer connected me with a great local designer in Richmond who made me an amazing custom gown. (Shout out to Aimée Lauren Atelier!) I had a relatively small wedding and had taken care of the majority of the planning myself, but I reached a point where I needed to NOT be in control anymore. Since I had such a great experience getting my dress from Christine, I went back to her for coordination help. Brittney on her team did an amazing job the day of my wedding. She took my plans and ran with them and handled lots of other little details I hadn't even thought of. Everyone appreciated having her there - I received lots of compliments from friends and family about her relaxed attentiveness. Most importantly, I was able to be in the moment and enjoy my wedding day. Thanks again ladies!

Wood Grain & Lace (Christine and Brittney) provided day-of coordination for my wedding. Their services were everything I hoped for. I didn't have to worry about anything on my wedding day -- they took care of getting everything set up and making sure the day went smoothly for me and my husband and our guests. Christine, the owner of the business, is the epitome of professionalism. She is extremely organized and detail-oriented, but makes everything seem like a breeze.
I enjoy planning things myself, so it worked very well for me to plan all of the details of our wedding myself and then simply hand over the reins to Wood Grain & Lace on the wedding day. I can't recommend them highly enough for this. But also, for anyone who doesn't enjoy (or have the time for) self-planning, I would recommend any and all of their more comprehensive services. Christine et al have the creative vision and organizational capabilities to bring anything to life; I would trust them to make any event absolutely fabulous.

"Christine helped my husband and I execute our perfect wedding, and we can't recommend her more highly. She was attentive, responsive, and cool-headed throughout the entire process. Christine designed and set up the centerpieces and other decor and was able to make my vision of a whimsical garden wedding come to life. Christine's common sense and on the spot problem-solving were also on point. One of my bridesmaids fell in love with Christine after she saved her from a major wardrobe malfunction in the middle of the party. I have no idea how many other near-disasters may have taken place because Christine kept me in blissful ignorance on the day of the wedding and took care of everything :-). We are still receiving compliments on how fun, smooth, and beautiful our wedding was, and the success of the event is in large part due to Christine with Wood Grain & Lace. If you're a Virginia bride, reach out to Christine. And while you're at it, check out her beautiful store, Urban Set Bride, in Richmond."

"My husband and I got married on July 5th 2014. He is a very easygoing person and subsequently was a very easygoing groom, but his one stipulation was that he insisted on hiring Christine. This was the best thing we could've ever done. If I could give advice to anyone getting married in the near future, I would highly recommend hiring Christine! She can do it all, at any level you need, and will make your day the wonderful and carefree event you are hoping for. We had about 100 guests at a private venue. Christine met with us in person twice, once on site, and was always available via email. She will be the "behind the scenes" host that you need so your special day will run smoother than you can ever imagine. No matter what kind of event you are planning, spare no expense and hire Christine. It will make all the difference and make your event the absolute BEST it can be."

Kate + Doug // November 2013
"Doug and I were beyond fortunate to have Christine by our side (or simply a phone call away) leading up to and during our wedding. She is sharp, funny, ultra creative, savvy and simply fun to be around. Christine always made our needs her highest priority even though she was managing many projects, least of which was opening an amazing new boutique. She handled countless details from identifying the most talented vendors, to how to make our Meridian House venue unique, to last minute floral needs with grace and calm. She understood us instantaneously and knew how & when to steer us in "our" correct direction. Christine made our whole wedding process a joy & a day we will never forget. We joke that is was the Maguire magic but in truth it was the Christine magic. For that we are forever grateful."

"I am beyond fortunate to have Christine as one of my best friends. Knowing her for about ten years I can definitely say that wedding planning is her calling. She is a woman with an eye for style and detail. She knows how to build a relationship with her customer that gives her a deeper understanding of the bride and grooms unique personality. I barely gave Christine any direction on the day of my wedding but she knew exactly what to do and when to do it. As Christine is known for saying "breath, I got this" - she made my wedding day stress free. She was behind the scenes orchestrating all of the details so that I could enjoy every precious moment from getting ready with my bridesmaids to the very end of the night when we shared our last dance and ran through a magical tunnel of sparklers. So, relax, breath, and let Christine help you with the best day of your life!"
Bride - Day of Coordination by Christine
Molly + Mone // September 2013
"Thank you so much, Christine, for making Molly and Mone's wedding so perfect.I always felt like you had our back and were willing to do anything we needed done from picking up the cake and flowers to helping decorate the tables. Especially thoughtful were the baskets of emergency supplies ( needle, thread, safety pins, antacid, deodorant, etc.) You were truly fairy godmother to us all and were especially good at organizing our huge wedding, including 12 rowdy groomsmen! I am so glad you were our wedding planner and highly recommend your services."
Mother of the Bride - Day of Coordination + Event Styling by Christine
Jessica + Mark // November 2012
Without Christine being a phone call/email/Skype chat away from me the last three months leading up to my wedding day, I would certainly be in jail for murdering one of my relatives. Hiring her is like hiring an awesome friend who tells it like it is, listens to you when you need to vent and never judges your mini-breakdowns (and trust me, you'll have at least one.) I thought I could do it all and I'm so glad I listened to a friend's recommendation to hire a planner. Christine was at the venue at 8 in the morning and worked her butt off until our midnight exit. She handled a moldy cake delivery, a bridesmaid meltdown about an ex-boyfriend and setup our reception EXACTLY the way I wanted it.
If I hadn't met Mark, I would marry Christine."
Bride - Full Planning by Christine
Lauren + Phil // October 2012
"In choosing a farm as the backdrop for our wedding, we knew we were starting with a blank slate and it was up to us to make it beautiful. Arriving at the reception on our wedding day, it looked as perfect as we'd always imagined thanks to Christine. Whether it was hanging paper wheels on a barn or lining the tables with mason jars and votives, Christine nailed every detail and we couldn't have been happier with her work. She even worked efficiently to iron out the inevitable day-of dilemmas and keep us stress-free and happy on our special day. We couldn't have pulled it off without her!"
